Following her recent success at the 2022 Essex Junior Open, AJN sponsored, Emma Bartley, was selected to represent England at this year’s ESF European Championships.
The prestigious event, which was held in Eindhoven in April, saw the 17-year-old compete in the fiercely competitive Under 19 Individuals event. After comfortable wins in rounds two and three, Emma lost out to fellow England team-mate and eventual tournament winner, Katie Malliff, in the Quarter Finals.
Bury St Edmunds-based, Emma, who was crowned Under 19 Champion at the Essex Junior Open at the end of February, has been making a name for herself on a global level over the past few years.
At just 15 years old, Emma became one of the youngest members of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) and has seen her world ranking climb 117 places – up from 289 in 2019 to 172 in the world.
Emma’s on court success on the PSA circuit has also led to a scholarship at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where she will compete for the Drexel Dragons in September whilst studying for a sports business degree.
Having first picked up a squash racket at the age of three, Emma has notched up an astonishing array of squash titles including ‘Under 19 Champion’ at the 2021 Suffolk Closed tournament, ‘East Regional Champion’ at Under 19, winner of the Eastern Region Squash Championship at every level from Under 11 to Under 19, and Under 11 National Champion.
She was also ranked Number One in the country in the Under 11 and Under 13 categories, Number Two in the Under 15 category and is currently ranked fifth nationally in the Under 19 grouping.
